Kerson Leong (violin) Kerson Leong is 11 and has already won the Grand Prize at the Canadian Music Competition for four straight years, each time achieving the highest mark of any age group or instrument. In the recent 2008 competition in Quebec City, the judges awarded him a mark of 99% for his stunning performance. He was recognized in the Galaxie Rising Star Program of the CBC and was also the youngest finalist in the 2006 nationwide CBC Mozart Variation Contest held to celebrate Mozart’s 250th birthday anniversary. |

Maria Sourjko was born in Russia, in the city of Vologda, where she studied at the Vologda Music College. After graduating with honors, Ms. Sourjko continued piano studies in Performance program at the Petrozavodsk State Conservatory (Karelia) with Professor Victor Arkhipov, an alumni of the Moscow Conservatory. While studying in Karelia, Ms. Sourjko was a rehearsal and concert accompanist of the Petrozavodsk State University Choir. Ms. Sourjko immigrated to Canada in 1999.
Ms. Sourjko studies with Professor Jean Desmarais at the University of Ottawa, where she has shown excellence at all of her Piano Performance examinations. She is currently completing her Baccalaureate of Music Degree.
Last year, Ms. Sourjko appeared as a soloist in several recitals, among them performance in the CBC Radio II - Noon Hour Classical Encounters Series, and the Radio Canada’s Young Artists Program, both for local and national broadcast.
Ms. Sourjko was awarded the Special Prize for the best performance of contemporary music in the Northwestern Regional Competition of Piano Performers (Petrozavodsk, Russia), and a first prize in Romantic music category in the Kiwanis Music Festival (Canada).
Ms. Sourjko also received the Anthony King Scholarship established by St. Andrew’s Church in Ottawa, the Jean-Paul Sevilla and the Cecile Gagnon Cote Scholarships established by the Ontario Student Opportunity Trust Fund, and Nora Hickson Kelly Scholarship from the private funds of the University of Ottawa.
This year, Maria Sourjko will appear as a soloist in recital, and with the Kanata Symphony Orchestra.

As a Chinese pianist, Zi Jin studied in China Conservatory of Music in Beijing
where she had showed her excellence at a number of concerts and competitions as
both soloist and accompanist. After received her Baccalaureate of Arts Degree in
June 2003, she was matriculated in University of Ottawa as a graduate student
and awarded scholarships. Now she is pursuing her Master of Music degree with
Prof. Stephane Lemelin. This season, Zi Jin will perform as the accompanist in
the Inter-varsity choral Festival; the soloist in her recital, as well with
Kanata Symphony Orchestra.
