Information for Members

Separate rehearsals for the string and woodwind/brass/percussion ensembles are hoped to resume in February 2022, but dates and locations are to be determined. Contact President@kanatasymphony.ca or VicePresident@kanatasymphony.ca if interested. Proof of vaccination and a valid photo ID must be provided to participate, and the City of Ottawa's online self-assessment must be completed on the day of each rehearsal with results emailed to either President@kanatasymphony.ca (for strings) or VicePresident@kanatasymphony.ca (for woodwind/brass/percussion).

The woodwind/brass/percussion group has been rehearsing at the Nepean Creative Arts Centre (NCAC), 35 Stafford Rd. The date and location of the next rehearsal is still to be determined, but the first possible date is Feb 11 at the NCAC. We are waiting for details on how many players will be allowed to gather. Stay tuned.

Chairs are supplied but bring a stand. Original parts for Shostakovich's Festive Overture, Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, Vaughan Williams' Folk Song Suite and Holst's Second Suite are provided; please download Holst's First Suite in Eb from IMSLP. The cost is currently $10 per person for all rehearsals so far; please give your cash to Larry.

  • City of Ottawa has sent notice that rehearsal could resume the week of February 5th, 2022: the KSO Strings could resume as early as Wednesday 9 Feb 2022. No information yet on capacity limit or other restrictions. A contract for the Glen Cairn Community Centre (GCCC) is in place.

  • The Librarian has done a fantastic job cleaning up the music and making sure all rehearsal numbers/letters are matching the score: please download and use those parts! Thank you Heidi for all your efforts! This should alleviate time loss in rehearsal in getting everyone quickly at the right spot.

COST

  • Cost is $40/month ($10/week) to cover some expenses (salaries and rental) - please send electronic payment to "Treasurer@kanatasymphony.ca"

  • Donations are welcome since the $40 cost doesn't cover all the costs.


REHEARSALS

  • Confirm your attendance (empty seats will be offered to back-up players) by email to "President@kanatasymphony.ca".

  • The day of the rehearsal: log on to the City of Ottawa COVID-19 online self screening questionnaire (link here). Forward the email with the result to "President@kanatasymphony.ca"

        • use "KSO" for the activity

        • use "190 Morrena Rd" for the address

        • do the self-assessment early as it might take some time to get the email reply (that you need to forward as proof)

  • Have your proof of double or triple vaccination (only the official version with QR code will be accepted) with you at the rehearsal with a valid government id with picture. All players should have their proof of vaccination with them at every rehearsal.
